In trying to make room to squeeze my new (and large) SUV into the garage, I find I now have to let my beautifully-restored super-rare Mission Beverages embossed 1954 Ideal 55 Slider chest cooler go to someone else who can appreciate adding it to their collection! For those who dont know, Mission Beverages was originally a California beverage company well-known for their Mission Orange flavor of soft drink. With it being a California company, its not usually seen much outside of California. This is what makes it a rare and very desirable machine to have in your collection.
When this machine first came to me, it had been skillfully repainted in a deep yellow automotive-grade paint, with flawless detail given to the painting of the cabinet; to the contrasting embossed logo on the front, and ultimately to the deep black shine of the cap catcher as well! I've since replaced the original lid with a new stainless-steel one that perfectly replicates the original, as well as installed brand-new sealing gaskets around the entire top and side-door openings; replaced the original (and cumbersome) side-door crank lock with a latch-lock, and, replaced all decals and emblems as well, all in a quest for a better-looking machine. The 10-cents (dime-only) mechanical coin mechanism, as well as the actual in-cabinet mechanical vending feature, all work perfectly! The rust-free interior is in great condition, including the top vending rack (which is usually trashed).Package also includes the center shelf (not shown, as I've just kept it removed for better airflow inside). The refrigeration system works just fine, and the machine runs ice-cold; however, I recently had to remove the thermostat due to it going bad, as it seemed to be allowing the machine to run constantly, causing ice buildup inside.
In the interim, I ran it on a 28-day timer, cycling it on and off within every hour, and it has kept its bottled sodas nice and cold. However, due to my lack of time and electrical experience to troubleshoot the issue more, I will let a more experienced owner look into locating and installing a proper thermostat and tweaking the settings to their liking. Because I needed the room in my garage in a hurry, I've had to move the cooler into my storage unit in Livermore, CA, in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ive tried to describe this cooler to the best of my ability. The pictures tell the story, however, and should be considered to be a part of the description. This is a rare example of a very hard-to-find chest cooler, especially in this great condition.
